Wesnoth
Wesnoth is developed by Gna!, and is a freeware game, making it absolutely free to play and customize. In order to remain entirely objective, it is the duty of Tel'Laerad to inform prospective players that not taking advantage of this feature means they are denying themselves access to a simply brilliant product, and one of the best bargains in the gaming industry. It would be unprofessional to allow opinion to color this issue, but you have simply made a mistake if you do not at least play through the tutorial of this fantastic game.
On Playing Wesnoth
After downloading the game, there are three real options for playing- a tutorial, a variety of official and player-created single-player campaigns, and the multiplayer mode. Wesnoth is a simple game to play, but difficult to master, and it is worthwhile to finish the very short tutorial before engaging in the other options, even for those familiar with the genre.
Single Player Campaigns
There are a number of campaigns available upon download- these are of extremely variable difficulty, but are clearly marked. Those who enjoy the game are likely to enjoy these, and are encouraged to play them. They are, however, entirely less important than the multi-player.
Multi-player Games
Battle For Wesnoth supports an astounding number of multiplayer options, from simple face-offs with different objectives to team vs. team battles to co-operative missions against AI. These matches are always excellent diversions, and often keep all the parties involved entertained for hours.
