The History of Aethos
So one day this young child named Dyn falls out of the sky into Aethos only there's nobody there at all and so he languishes for a while until he finds some imaginary friends to talk to and then everything is all better and then this creator shows up and he's all 'hey watch over my stuff' and dyn's all 'k' and then he does and all is well the end. - The Slightly Abridged History
Major Events in Aethos
Dyn's Arrival - Dyn showed up. Actually, he fell from the sky, which probably would have killed him were it possible to die within Aethos. As the first sentient being within Aethos, Dyn was the one who first thought of it as rolling plains.
The Other - Dyn rather quickly realized that he wasn't alone on the plane- or rather, he was alone. Intensely so. Those things which he created, he later found gone, and eventually investigated this. What Dyn found was a concentrated nonentity which followed in his footsteps, taking what he had raised. Unbeknownst to him, this was the Rasa, a passive aspect of the plane which had become vital in response to the unnatural ordering effect of Dyn's haphazard creations.
Birth of Fiennyl - Starved for company, Dyn created a series of imaginary friends who, due to the odd nature of Aethos, were not all that imaginary. After several thousand of these, Dyn imagined one so complex that it decided that it wasn't interested in being controlled by someone else, and began to imagine itself. This was Fiennyl.
The Sealing of the Other - With the birth of Fiennyl, the Rasa was given a mobile creation which replicated (in a way) by spawning order of its own. As Fiennyl accrued power separate from Dyn, the Rasa was forced to focus on him, seeking his unraveling. For time untold, the two fled the Rasa, attempting to fight it, thwarted at every turn. So, in time, weary and despairing, the two stopped and made a stand. The rest of this incident is well-unknown, but, somehow, the Rasa was defeated, and placed within the Tabula Rasa. The existence of the Rasans in Aethos indicates an imperfect job.
I Hear Voices - Dyn and Fiennyl began to hear voices when the wandering of Aethos took the plane into a space inhabited by a paraplanar race. Fascenated by the thought of creatures outside of Aethos, the two spent a good deal of time talking to these creatures before Aethos moved on.
Job Offer - The Creator of the Destheran Multiverse appeared to Dyn, and asked him to take care of his work. Dyn was extremely impressed by this for two reasons:
1. The idea of finally meeting other people captivated him 2. This being was able to overpower him, despite the fact that he had, by this time, gained full mastery over the plane of Aethos, and could easily reshape the entire universe in seconds.
Alignment - Aethos had floated helter-skelter through an uncaring omniverse for quite some time, but it was now harnassed to the Destheras, to polarize them.
The Forging - And then did the Grey Lord, solemn, unspeaking / Take up two ingots / And the one was of Aethic Steel, and therein contained purest possibility / But the other was of mundane iron, and was rooted within the basest Reality / And for nights beyond counting in suns did he smelt them / and for years without number he folded again / until, at the last, even his arm grew weary / and he crowned the blade with the Darkness of the Light / And in it he spoke the secret he had learned / that earth and heaven might by the holder be bound.
Only it was actually more in the nature of an experiment, and he cursed a lot.
Et Cetera - And so on, and so forth.
The Nature of Aethos
Aethos is made entirely of Aethic energy, which responds instantly to the subconscious. This leads to a kind of 'virtual omnipotence' within the plane, often compared to the power one might hold in a dreamland such as Arcadia. The difference here is that Aethic energy (or matter, as the case may be) is extant in the conventional sense.
The Dangers of Aethos
The first danger of Aethos lies in the unwary thought. As expectation colors the landscape, an idle daydream may well bring an elephant (a simulacrum thereof) upon the thinker.
The second danger lies in the standard exchange of material between the body and environment. Since Aethic material continues to respond to subliminal impulses regardless of position, having too much of this material within the body can prove suddenly and painfully fatal. A complete transference of material only exacerbates the problem- the brain must remain in a set pattern, as a set kind of molecule(s) to function.
The third danger lies in the fragments of the Rasa- the Nightmares and Antitheses of the plane, which are attracted by negative emotion. Given enough time, it is impossible to avoid drawing the attentions of these beings.
The Destheran Multiverse
